So I have really been enjoying my physical science class at SFCC...it's so much fun! We are going through the section on Celestial Mechanics and it's so amazing to learn about the universe. If I was smarter, I think I would want to major in physical science (or even astronomy) just for fun! It's so much fun to go outside at night and look at the stars and find the different constellations and planets. I know, it's sounds weird, but it's so much fun!

I still haven't found a job, and I am thinking about calling my friend to see if one of her students parents still need a nanny. It's good money, and the experience isn't anything you could ever trade for! Plus, since it would only be a couple days, I might apply part-time some place. Maybe Publix...maybe some place else. We will see, just please be praying because I need to get one soon. Bills don't pay themselves ya know! Lol - I know that God will provide a position for me, it's all in his timing!

ESQ: The scenario:
We are walking into a building in front of you. Do we hold the door open?
Katherine: That depends. If you are a step or two ahead of me, I'd expect you to hold the door. If it's more than that, don't bother. If you're far ahead of me, it's like you're waiting and I feel like I have to hurry up.

We are seated on a packed train and you're standing next to us. Do we give up our seat?
Alyssa: I actually think the idea that men should get up for young, healthy women is ridiculous. I'm perfectly capable of standing. I'm not a delicate flower who needs to sit.
Laura: It would kind of freak me out a little bit, like I'm old and infirm and not a sassy young thing anymore.

We think you may be pregnant -- it's hard to tell with those loose dresses. What do we do?
Patricia: In that case, just offer the seat -- without asking when we're due. You don't have to say why you are getting up. Nothing looks worse than a man who makes a pregnant woman stand.

A woman is lugging a large suitcase through the airport. Do we offer to help?
Katherine: I think a good rule of thumb is, if it looks like we're struggling, offer to help -- we'll really appreciate it.
Alyssa: As much as I want to be pro-feminist and able-bodied, if I'm carrying something heavy, help a girl out.

Okay, so we lug the case up a staircase for you. We would love to keep helping, but now we've got our own flight to catch.
Patricia: Helping me up the stairs is plenty. Just exit by asking, "Are you okay with this now?"
Laura: I'd like you to help me take it through security, take my laptop out of the case, put it back in again, take my shoes off, and smuggle in my water. That is modern chivalry. I'd marry that man.

We pass a woman walking down the street, crying. Do we do anything?
Laura: You already feel bad enough if you're crying in the street. It's better if nobody else acknowledges it.
Katherine: If we happen to be standing next to, say, a broken-down car, ask if we need help or if we need to use your phone.

It's late at night and we see you stumbling alone out of a bar, extremely drunk.
Katherine: Call us a cab, or ask if we have any friends who are still inside the bar. Any more and you could seem a little creepy.

We are in a parking lot and see you fighting loudly with a man, probably your boyfriend. Do we intervene?
Patricia: Not unless it gets out of hand. If there's just an argument, respect people's privacy.
Laura: If I were fighting with my boyfriend, I'd be already pissed off. There's chivalry and then there's delusions of being a knight in shining armor. Get lost.

We don't do anything, but then it starts to get physical -- we see him grab you by the arm.
Katherine: If you know you don't stand a chance if you try to pull the guy off, then call the police. And let them know you're watching. Sometimes just the social pressure of knowing that somebody's looking at you or knowing that somebody's calling the police can help.

We are at a bar when we see you being aggressively hit on by David Spade. What now?
Laura: We are more than capable of dispensing with an undesirable man.
Katherine: I would appreciate it if you came over and struck up a conversation with me and gave me an excuse to end the conversation with the other guy, but I'd probably assume you're hitting on me, too.


*And by "lovely" we mean no patronizing offense.

R.I.P Heath Ledger 1979-2008

So I just found out today that Heath Ledger died this afternoon. Reports are saying that it was a possible drug overdose, but it's to early to tell. His housekeeper found him lying unconscious on the floor of his bedroom around 3pm today. It's so heart breaking...he was one of my favorite actors, one of my favorite movies he played in was A Nights Tale and 10 Things I Hate About You. I was really looking forward to seeing his upcoming movie with Christian Bale, "The Dark Night". All we can do is pray for his Michelle Williams (the mother of his daughter), his family, and friends.

Random thought

So I was going to write, "How droll this weather is"...just to be poetic and antique. So I decided to look in the dicitonary and see what droll actually meant, and it doesn't mean what I thought it meant. It means humerous or jesting. Why give it that meaning, when the actual word "droll" is so tired sounding and gloomy.
Which is actually what today is...so is so gloomy. I wish it would rain on my day off so I could take a nap or scrapbook. Speaking of scrapbooking, I need to go get my pictures from Wal-Mart so that I can start my new scrapbooking project.

Prayer Request

I don't want to go into to much detail, just because my dad wants to keep some things under wraps. But our family business will be closing down much earlier than we thought...probably (and most likely) at the end of the month. So that means that I need to find a job...like as in start looking next week! I would just ask that you guys pray that God would direct me to a job and that I would not be fearful. This will be my first time going out into the "work force", you get really spoiled when your dad is your boss. I guess the thing I am most fearful of is being fired...I know it sounds stupid but I really am.


And tomorrow is Josh and Kim's wedding! I am very excited, but I need to find an outfit to wear. Forever21 here I come!! =>

Bored at work

So I am really bored at work...and I remembered that I hadn't posted in a while...well here I am! I started school on Tuesday and I missed my 8:00am class. I woke up at 8:05am and realized my alarm hadn't gone off. What a great way to start off the school year, I'm sure my english prof thinks I am a great person! But I e-mailed him and told him I would be in class Thursday morning...on time! I think I am going to enjoy my Physical Science class, I already love my prof cause he said we didn't need our textbook to succeed in the class...so I get my $91.10 back!!! I think it's so rediculous to spend that much money on a book that you are probably not going to use that much in a four month period. Oh well, just as long as I pass the class I am good! And I dropped my Intro to Computers class, cause my prof was a BBEEYYOOTTCCHH!! I hate to say it but she was and I was not about to be stuck with that woman for six weeks...I just wouldn't be able to handle it. So I added Music Appreciation (online)...yay for classes I love!! But I am just glad that I am graduating this semester and it will all be over. In a way, I think I am going to miss it...but it's a season of life and I am looking forward to what the next season will bring.
I just found out that I might be needing to look another job sooner than later. So, I'm thinking about Starbucks...it's right across the street and I've talked to someone that works there and the hours are not at all that bad. Everyone seems to be very nice, and free coffee every hour! Yup, that's the job for me...plus I always thought it would be fun to be a Barista! (ya, I am a dork) So I am praying to see where God is going to lead me...and I would appreciate prayers!
Oh and just a word to the wise...don't go see "Atonement"...don't ask why...just don't go see it.
We should have our CO today for the church and I might go out tonight and help out a bit...or I might go tomorrow night after work. I'll play it by ear...but I am sooo stinking excited! And I am super excited about Josh and Kim's wedding on Saturday! It will be at the church (Lord willing) and it's going to be sooo much fun!
So I will post more on Sunday or Monday...about the wedding and church in our new building...=>

A look back...and a look ahead

As we waved goodbye to 2007 and ushered in 2008, one can only look back at another year full filled. As I look back on my year, I can only thank God for everything that he has done for me and my family. I can't be more grateful for how blessed I am, for all the big things and the little things in my life. I want to take a brief section to thank my friends for always being there for me this past year. I had many struggles and many things happen that you were always there for and I can't be more grateful! I also want to thank my family, for always being there for me as well and for showing me a love that I will never be able to describe.

As for 2008, there will be many changes that will take place in my life. A new church to worship and serve God in, my last semester in college, our family store closing, putting myself out into the "real" world (job-wise), and a possible move to a sercret location (don't worry, it's still in Fl). And who know's what else God has in store for me...I only pray that I will be able to serve him with a greater passion and come running to the cross when I need Him.
